About me
I am an artist from South Korea. I have lived for about a third of my life in Seoul, Bern, Milan, and London over the past 12 years, and I am currently based in Berlin.
My artistic journey began at the age of three when my mother enrolled me in a children’s art academy. Surrounded by her paintings, I was inspired by her work and captivated by the world of art. Throughout elementary and middle school, she continued to support my artistic growth, providing opportunities to learn from various art teachers and participate in numerous contests where I encountered the work of many other artists. During this time, I particularly enjoyed painting landscapes of the countryside around my hometown and creating imaginative depictions of futuristic worlds.
Although I took a long break from art since high school due to life’s demands, I felt a strong need for art during the COVID-19 lockdown and restarted my artistic journey.
Artist statement
At the heart of my work lies a dynamic interplay between instinct and control, where organic forms emerge and are refined into deliberate compositions. By allowing spontaneity to guide the initial stages of my work, I tap into the raw, unfiltered energy of the moment. However, as the work evolves, I introduce layers of control, refining and shaping the forms to reflect deeper meanings. This balance between the instinctive and the deliberate is central to my practice, reflecting the complexities of life itself, where we are often caught between chaos and order, the conscious and the subconscious.
My experiences living in diverse cities have enriched my perspective but also introduced a sense of mental confusion influenced by the blend of Eastern and Western cultural elements. This inner dialogue is reflected in my art through themes of introspection and psychological complexity. My work captures the interplay between my inner thoughts and feelings, shaped by both the chaos of my subconscious and the external world.
Through projects such as 'The Misty Heaven', 'Innerscape' and 'Connection', I focus on the intangible realms of the human experience exploring the psychological, and emotional landscapes that shape our inner and outer worlds. In addition, the use of cross-sensory experiences, especially in projects like 'Chopin', allows me to transcend the boundaries of traditional visual art, creating a deeper, more immersive engagement to art.
